Can I compress a video without losing quality?
Video compression normally re-encodes the file, so no online compressor can promise a perfectly lossless result and a much smaller file at the same time. The High Quality setting keeps more detail and aims for minimal visible change, while Balanced and Small File trade more detail for a smaller download.
How do I make a video file smaller?
Choose a lower bitrate with the Balanced or Small File setting. Reducing the maximum resolution to 720p or 480p can shrink the file further, especially when the original is 1080p or 4K.
Which video formats can I compress?
You can select MP4, MOV, WebM, and M4V files. The exact codecs your browser can open vary by device. H.264 MP4 is the most widely supported input.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Reading, processing, previewing, and downloading all happen in your browser on your device. Closing or refreshing the tab clears the working video.
Why can a compressed file sometimes be larger?
A source video may already use a very efficient bitrate. If you choose a high quality preset or a larger resolution, the new bitrate can exceed the original. Try Balanced, Small File, or a lower resolution for a smaller result.
How long does video compression take?
